Amended by Acts 1986, No. 459, § 1, eff. July 2, 1986. Amended by Acts 1986, No. 154, § 1. A pretrial conference is the court appearance where the prosecutor and defense attorney (or defendant) attempts to plea-bargain a case before setting it for trial. Diversion is when a defendant is put on probation for an allotted period, and after the successful completion of the probationary period, the conviction will be set aside and the prosecution will be dismissed as an acquittal, except that it may be considered as a first offense in any subsequent charge. The arraignment is the court proceeding in which the accused is clearly notified of the charges against him or her, after which he or she is asked to enter a plea.
