KENNER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COURT
A court dedicated to educate and protect citizens, the Domestic Violence court was instituted in April 2005 and handles all doestic violence issues, including parental neglect.
The Clerk of Court/Mayor's Court believes dedicating an entire session to domestic violence cases sends a message to the community that doesmtic violence will not be tolerated in Kenner.
Defendants in all domestic violence cases must appear for every step of their adjudication, inlcuidng arraignment, trial, and any subsequent compliance hearings. This promotes consistency of case disposition and expertise in domestic abuse on the part of the Magistrate.
DULUTH MODEL
The Duluth Model was designed in 1981 as a coordinated community response of law enforcement, the criminal and civil courts, and human service providers working together to make communities safer for victims and hold offenders accountable for their behavior. The Duluth curriculum is the most widely used program in the country and around the world. It has also been adapted for use with different cultures.
