CLERK OF COURT
The Clerk of Court has the responsibility of recording all documents filed with the Mayor’s Court, keeping a record of all court proceedings and collecting various fines, forfeitures, and court costs ordered by the court and specified by the City Code of Ordinances.
The Mayor’s Court through impartial judgments, interprets and applies the law to resolve disputes and to ensure due process of the law. This Court has jurisdiction over traffic, misdemeanor and code enforcement violations occurring within the City of Kenner.
The office is open Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Most traffic tickets may be paid approximately one month after the issue date. If it is a payable ticket it may be paid prior to the court date. If not paid prior to the start of court on the day of the arraignment, the defendant must appear in court. To contest a traffic ticket, the defendant must appear in person in court on the day indicated of the bottom of the ticket. To speak with someone during regular business hours call 504-468-7277. When a person receives a traffic ticket, the court date and time are listed on the bottom of the ticket. Most traffic tickets may be paid after 21 days from the issue date. If not paid by 11:00 A.M. on the court appearance date, the violator must appear in court. If a traffic ticket is past due, additional charges will be added. Accidents without injury may be paid without going to court. Accidents involving an injury require an appearance in court.
MISDEMEANORS, ATTACHMENT ARRESTS AND CODE ENFORCEMENT CASES
Misdemeanor cases (with the exception of loud sound), cases in which the defendant was arrested on an outstanding attachment, and code enforcement cases require a court appearance. The date and time of the court appearance are on the summons and/or booking form.
