Office Of The Mayor
Mayor Michael J. Glaser, a life-long Kenner resident has dedicated his career to serving the people of Kenner.
Mayor Glaser is a graduate of Loyola University New Orleans and The Center for American and International Law’s School of Police Supervision. He is a certified law enforcement instructor, former S.W.A.T. Team member, and Field Training Officer. He was selected as the Kenner Police Department’s “Top Cop” in 1997 by the American Society for Industrial Security.
Mayor Glaser began his career in public service with the Kenner Police Department in 1990 and dedicated 24 years of service as a Kenner police officer. During his time at KPD, Mayor Glaser served in various roles including corrections officer and detective, and advanced to Deputy Chief and second-in-command.
In 1999, he was named the Kenner Police Department’s Accreditation Program Manager. As Accreditation Program Manager, he successfully led the Department through the process that resulted in the Department being accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (C.A.L.E.A.) in 2001.
Mayor Glaser was then promoted to Sergeant in 2005 and assumed the duties as the Legal Affairs/Professional Standards Officer. As Legal Affairs/Professional Standards Officer, he was the Department’s chief policy and procedure writer, emergency preparedness coordinator, and an Internal Affairs Division supervisor.
In 2013, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police and assumed the duties of Commander of Operations and Chairman of the Department’s Administrative Review Board.
In February of 2014, Mayor Glaser ran for Police Chief and was elected without opposition. He served as Chief of Police from 2014 to 2022, and then entered the race for Mayor of Kenner. Glaser was elected mayor on the 26th of March with 75 percent of the vote.
Since taking office on July 1, 2022 Mayor Glaser’s administration has made several impactful changes including moving all city offices and public meetings from the Macy’s building to city owned buildings, restoring recreational gyms and facilities and creating community centered events that revitalize Kenner’s strong sense of community.
