Lead Safe Kenner Grant Program
The City of Kenner Department of Community Development proudly offers the Lead Safe Kenner Program, a free service designed to protect families, children, and property owners from the dangers of lead-based paint in homes and rental units built before 1978. Through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), this initiative helps eliminate health hazards while improving housing safety and quality for Kenner’s most vulnerable residents.
Free Services Offered:
- Lead inspections for homes and rental properties
- Blood lead testing for children (finger stick)
- Professional lead hazard remediation, including paint removal and control strategies
If lead hazards are detected, our team will work closely with you and a certified contractor to create a customized plan for safe and effective remediation.
Repair on Wheels (ROW) Grant Program
The Repair on Wheels Grant Program provides home repair assistance for eligible elderly homeowners in the City of Kenner through a lottery-based application process. Designed to support safe, independent aging in place, this community development grant program focuses on low-cost, high-impact home modifications that improve safety, accessibility, and quality of life for seniors.
Types of Repairs Covered:
- Installation of smoke & CO detectors
- Minor plumbing, like faucet and toilet repairs
- Accessibility needs, such as ramps and handrails
- Minor electrical issues, light fixtures, outlet, and switch installation
- Minor flooring issues to fix tripping hazards
