Golf Cart Registration

The City of Kenner passed Ordinance 13,589, which allows the legal operation of golf carts under the following provisions in accordance with Kenner Code of Ordinances Article VI and Louisiana Law*.

Once your cart is outfitted to meet Kenner’s requirements, you can schedule your inspection with the Kenner Police Department. After a successful inspection and payment, Kenner Police will apply the approved decal to the cart. The registration fee for golf carts is $75/year

WHAT IS REQUIRED?

City of Kenner approval requires:

1.    Efficient brakes

2.    Parking brake

3.    Reliable steering apparatus

4.    Safe tires

5.    Rear view mirror

6.    Red reflective triangle “slow moving vehicle” sign at least 12”x12” mounted to the front and rear of the golf cart and clearly visible at all times.

7.    Front and rear turn signal lamps

8.    Tail lamps

9.    Brake lamps

10.    Headlamps

11.    Seat belts

12.    Vehicle identification number or serial number

13.    Proof of liability insurance 

Anyone operating a golf cart must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Golf carts may only be operated on city streets with a speed limit of thirty-five (35) miles per hour or less. Golf carts may not operate or cross any state or federal streets, roads, or highways. If operated on a multi-lane street, golf carts must stay in the outside lane. The golf cart shall be operated in accordance with all state traffic laws and carry only the number of passengers for which it was designed.

Golf carts are subject to the compulsory insurance requirements. The licensed operator must have in their possession proof of liability insurance specifically covering the golf cart being operated. If liability insurance is cancelled, it will result in a revocation of the registration and the driver's license.

What do I do next?

To complete your golf cart registration, create a Civic Rec account and book your inspection appointment.  You must be 18 years or older to register a golf cart.

Inspections are performed by appointment only on Mondays (excluding holidays) from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Kenner Police Laketown Lighthouse Substation. Reservations must be made at least 1 day in advance.

A $10 non-refundable deposit is required to book your appointment and will be applied toward your permit once you have passed inspection. Refunds are not issued for missed inspections. The remaining $65 will be collected once you pass inspection.

Carts should be trailered to the inspection location as they are not street legal until permitted.

All fees must be paid online by credit or debit card. A convenience fee will be applied.
