Permits & Licensing
Overview
The Inspection and Code Enforcement Department is responsible for processing permit applications for building construction and renovations, business signs, demolitions of structures, garage sales and the like. Other responsibilities include issuance of tradesman licenses (electricians, plumbers, mechanical contractors), collection of related fees and coordination of inspection schedules. This section includes personnel that are responsible for reviewing commercial and residential plans to insure compliance with the City's building code and other related regulations.
Waived Permit Fees
In accordance with Council Resolution B-17411, the City of Kenner is waiving permit fees for damages sustained from Hurricane Francine. However, residents are still required to obtain a permit for any repair work on their homes.

Building Permit
Necessary on all construction, including pools in and above ground, all portable or prefab buildings, cement work and fences. Cost varies. Please be advised that the demolition of any building must be permitted. Cost varies.

Filming Permit
- To obtain a film permit, please fill out our Film Permit Application.
Garage Sale Permit
- Valid for 3 consecutive days
- Limited to 2 sales per year

Generator Permit
- To install a generator on commercial or residential properties within the City of Kenner, please view our Generator Requirements (PDF).
Special Event/Gathering Permit
- All special events (i.e. bingos, raffles, etc.) must be permitted.

License Fees
The following fees are associated with Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Gas Licenses:
- Cost for new license: $200 (valid for 1 year)
- Renewal cost: $75
- Delinquent fee: $30
- Revival fee: $75*
- Electrical: Must have current Jefferson Parish License or State Electrical License*
- Plumbing: Must have current State Plumbing License*
- Mechanical: Must have current Jefferson Parish License or State Mechanical License*
- Gas: Must have current Jefferson Parish License or State Mechanical License*
